The Cayman Islands, a British Crown colony, are inhabited by warm, friendly people who take genuine pleasure in welcoming visitors. They are justifiably proud of both their pirate heritage and some of the most beautiful beaches and reefs in the Caribbean. This area, located just 480 miles south of Miami, has become an increasingly popular mecca for scuba divers. You’ll thrill to these clear waters, multitudes of fish and impressive, rare black-coral formations along Cayman’s vertical walls. This is undoubtedly the world’s most popular dive destination. With hundreds of dive sites, you’ll see something different each time you take a plunge.
Our group will be staying at Sunset House. Centrally located just one mile south of the capital of the Cayman Islands, George Town. This is probably the best place to get in as much diving as you want. Shore diving is easily accessible as well as great sites reached in any of their five custom dive boats.
Set on a coastal road about 3/4 miles (1.2km) south of George Town, Sunset House has a few things that other Grand Cayman hotels do not. They are a well-recommended middle-bracket hotel whose rooms are divided among a quintet of two-story pink-sided outbuildings. Accommodations are simple, no-nonsense, and comfortable and are favored by divers and snorkelers who appreciate the jagged, mostly rock shoreline and the extensive diving programs. Sunset House is 100% smoke free in all rooms.
If you’re looking for a large resort on the beach, the Sunset House is not for you. They are an intimate, boutique “scuba diving friendly”, family owned hotel with only 50 rooms. Visitors to Grand Cayman come to Sunset House to escape the world for a while, soak up the sun, sit by the pool, make unforgettable dives and enjoy fantastic food at My Bar overlooking the beautiful Caribbean Sea.
If you’re a diver or a non-diver looking for things to do during your stay on Grand Cayman, Sunset House has everything you need. Easy access to the downtown shopping core but far enough away that you don’t get stuck in traffic or people. Easy access to the south side of the island and only a ten-minute car ride from Seven Mile Beach; a great place to start an island tour.
