Digital Underwater Photography Course

Instructor

If you think the digital era has revolutionized photography out of the water, wait until you discover what it has done for underwater imaging.

  • No longer do you need costly underwater cameras, expensive strobes or pricey lenses to capture breathtaking underwater images.
  • There is no more buying film, paying for processing — or having to wait until you get home from vacation to discover how your pictures came out.
  • You don’t need to master complicated concepts such as f-stops, shutter speed, aperture and guide numbers.

All you need is an inexpensive, point-and-shoot digital camera and housing (which we provide for class) — and our Digital Underwater Photography course.

Who?   Who Can Learn? This course has three prerequisites:
  • Possess a minimum of PADI Open Water Diver certification (or equivalent).
  • Be at least 12 years of age.
  • Be able to answer No to all questions on the PADI/RSTC Medical History form, or secure a physician’s approval for diving prior to the start of the course.

What?   What is Involved? The course consists of two parts: PADI eLearning
  • Self Study, Classroom and Pool Training: This is where you gain a basic understanding of what digital underwater photography is all about, and get to develop many of the basic skills that are essential for this activity. For the self-study portion, you can either use the PADI Digital Underwater Photography manual or sign up for the eLearning version of the course.
  • Open Water Training (Optional): Here you apply that knowledge and skills you developed in the classroom and pool, and refine them under real-world diving conditions. Successfully completing both open-water training qualifies you for full PADI Digital Underwater Photographer certification.

Where?   Where Do You Learn? Class work takes place at Just Add Water. The pool session is held at the same time and place as our regular Saturday beginning course pool dives. Optional open water training can take place at White Star Quarry in the late Spring or Summer, or on many of our group trips.
